I am a lover of all things crafty, from a young age, I would always find crafty things to keep me busy. From drawing, painting, molding, paper crafts and making little treasures from pretty much anything I could get my hands on. Now that I am married and have a child of my own, I choose to focus on making dainty little things for my home.
Decorating your home can be extremely expensive. However there’s always a cheaper more cost effective way of doing things, you just have to find the right projects. I’ve been looking around and came a cross this gorgeous idea to make hexagon shelves from ice cream sticks. This project is so simple and easy even your little ones would be able to make these great little shelves. I am so sure they would also love the idea of seeing their finished projects on the wall.
Below is a step by step guide of how to make the hexagon shelves from start to finish. You can also make these in other shapes and sizes. I hope you have as much fun making this as I did.
You will need:
My Free Template ( available at the end of the page) print 2
or you can draw a template of your own
+/- 100 Ice Cream Sticks
1. Start by aligning your template or draw a shape you would like to make. An A3 size paper should be big enough if you wish to draw your own guideline. You can also do this with or without a guideline, but do remember using one will make life a whole lot easier.
2. Place three sticks on the outsides of the lines as shown below. Place a small amount of glue, just enough to hold the next set of sticks together.
3. Place the next three sticks over the first three as shown below.
4. Repeat the above process until you have the desired width of your shelf. I used about 100 sticks.
You can choose to hang the shelf without varnish, for a rougher, lighter look.
I think the varnish somehow completes this project. When adding the varnish gently brush on with a paint bush. keep adding a coat of varnish until you get your desired color. The varnish will take up to 16 hours to completely dry. Hang up with two nails.
