With the Cold front hitting SA this weekend this apple pie is the perfect dessert to keep you warm and satisfied. Nothing beats a warm apple pie served with custard. Like most of my recipes, this one I learned how to make from my Mother.
8 Green Apples
4 Small Sticks of Cinnamon
1 Cup Water
1 Cup Sugar + 2 Tbls
2 Cups Flour
2 Tbls Baking Powder
Pinch of Salt
Preheat Oven to 180 C.
Steam apples in water, cinnamon and sugar until the water dries up.
Set apple mix aside to cool.
Cream Butter and Sugar.
Add Eggs and beat well.
Mix in flour, salt, and baking powder until a non sticky dough appears add more flour if necessary.
Keep 1/3 of the dough aside to top the pie.
Use the remainder dough and cover the pie dish, add the apple mix and grate the 1/3 dough you kept aside on top.
Bake for +/- 30 minutes, or until the pie starts to get brown.
